Cruising to Tidal Whirlpools with “Uzushio Cruise”

Uzushio is the name of tidal whirlpools in Japanese. NARUTO Channel is one of a few points in the world where tidal whirlpools occur. With its extremely rare geographical features and its phenomenon, NARUTO is now applying to be listed as the World heritage site.

You take a boat departing from the port located in the south end of Awaji Island. The cruise takes about 1 hour.

Taking the boat, KANRINMARU

The boat has a Japanese style room. You can relax there until it arrives to the point.

Arriving at the whirlpool point

Right underneath the bridge is the point where tidal whirlpools occur. The bridge is called NARUTO OHASHI, there is a slight relation between NARUTO and NARUTO(character of a manga)!

This dynamic bridge is worth seeing! The tides here are flowing really rapid. What if I fell into it !?!?!?

Here, NARUTO Channel is the border of Pacific Ocean and the Inland sea of Japan. To me, the water in the Pacific Ocean seemed in dark blue, and the other side seemed sort of green. And the two kinds of water gets mixed in the whirlpools. Go see the dynamic natural phenomenon with your eyes!

The tour was fun!!!!! After getting of the boat, you’ll enjoy some shopping and… drawing outside the building!!!

Tips to UZUSHIO Cruise

Tidal whirlpools do not always occur. They occur in certain times of the day or depending on season. At flood tide in Spring and Autumn, whirlpools could be up to 30 meters big.

If you are planning your trip to UZUSHIO Cruise, you’d better check with local tourist information.
