When do they bloom?

Cherry blossoms generally bloom in late March in Osaka, lasting more than a week until early April. It depends on the weather conditions of that particular year, so you need to check the cherry blossoms forecast if you are planning a trip to Japan during that season. You can google it, or check on the JINO website.

Osaka Castle, Kouzugu Shrine, and Utsubo Park

This year, I visited 3 spots: A major spot, a popular spot, and a hidden spot.

Osaka Castle Park

A must-go spot even when it is not cherry blossom season, but it’s gorgeous when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. There are of course so many people, but you can still enjoy viewing the flowers. I recommend Nishinomaru Garden, where you pay money(350 yen) to enter. There are fewer people and the view is just awesome. You can take good photos in front of the castle and cherry blossoms.

Utsubo Park

Utsubo park is a 5-minute walk from Hommachi Station on the Subway Yotsubashi Line. From Namba station or Osaka station, you can reach there within 25 mins. It is a popular spot for Japanese people and there aren’t many toursts. It is a nice escape from the crowded city center and you can enjoy a nice walk around the park.

Kouzugu Shrine

A hidden spot, not known among tourists yet. It’s good especially when you go in the evening. They put up lanterns only during the cherry blossom season, and they are exquisite. There are some food stalls so you can have some food and beer. Kouzugu shrine is near Osaka-Uehonmachi station on the Kintetsu line.
It takes approximately 10 minutes on foot from the station.

Travel Tips

When you go see cherry blossoms, you should bring a warm jacket with you. If it’s sunny, it may be warm or even hot under the sun, but it may be cold if it’s cloudy and there is not enough sun light. It’s still cold during night time. If you are planning to go on a picnic, wear something warm, because you’ll keep sitting and you’ll feel cold!!
